1. Hoping to be discovered , I struck this pose. No calls yet, however.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Český Krumlov is famous for its Old Town and its castle complex. This small, picturesque town is surrounded by rolling hills and the Vltava River in the southwest part of the Czech Republic.
2. The three-storied covered arched bridge stands on massive stone pillars and connects portions of the castle grounds. It was once a drawbridge with a gate.
3. These tulips catch the eye.
4. We had to change from using Euro money to Czech money for awhile.
Czech coins are fairly heavy and quite beautiful. The official currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech crown (koruna), abbreviated as Kč, with the international abbreviation CZK. The approximate value of 100 CZK is
5 USA dollars.
5. The River provided protection by nearly surrounding the castle.
6. Only two motor homes were in this rural campground by a stream. We rode bicycles on a newly paved country road into town then we walked up a steep hill to enter the castle.
7. A little further down the road we stopped to see Melk Abbey (Stift Melk), a Benedictine abbey above the town of Melk, Austria, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube river.
8. Inside was a grand old library and historical objects. But the beautiful baroque church was the high point.
9. Later we met up with Rich's friends for a birthday celebration at an Austrian ice cream shop.
10. Whoops, this picture is out of order.
The Baroque theatre at Cesky Krumlov was beautiful and interesting. We went behind the scenes to see how everything worked. There are a lot of ropes and trap doors; being a stagehand had to be quite a workout.
